ABOUT US
In 2011 the BFNL introduced a youth girls football competition to the league. In 2012 Lake Wendouree were delighted to join the competition and field a quality team of girls aged between 13-18 years headed by Fiona Edwards. With much hard work and dedication both on and off the field numbers grew along with skill level.
2 years on in 2014 Matt Newbury came on board as the Lakers Team Coach. Under his guidance the girls reached the grand-final in which they were runner’s up against Redan by 44 points. 2015 saw the girls again reach the grand-final but this time turning the tables on the Redan girls with a 42 point win. Under new Coach Dean Welsh, U18 Youth Girls won their 2nd Premiership in 2018 and our newly formed U15’s team were runner’s up in their 1st ever season under Coach Mick Meier.
Lakers were able to create a complete pathway for female football in 2016 with the addition to our Youth Girls Team of U12’s (now U13’s) & a Senior Women’s Team. 2017 saw the Senior Women Team fold after they were runner’s up to Carisbrook. With much hard work we relaunched our Senior Women in 2018 headed by our first female football player / coach Melinda Sands. Now in 2019, our Senior Women’s team is under the expert guidance of long time Lakers Club Member Nathan Reid.

We are currently seeking expressions of interest for all our age groups – U13 – U15 – U18 – Senior Women who are interested in joining the existing core group of players and committed volunteers where football skills and good character building is just part of the clubs focus and success. No previous football experience necessary. All levels of playing skills are welcome.
Not only do Lakers have a great local club pathway for female football, they support players in achieving higher levels such as AFL Goldfields Academy, Inter-League, Greater Western Victoria Rebels and AFLW.

🔰 It’s Lake Wendouree Club’s expectation for parents/grandparents to volunteers on Game Days. If anyone would like to be on the Committee we are always looking for people to help run the club. ✳️ Volunteers require a valid Working with Children Check, this is a club mandatory requirement.
🔵 A committee is in the process of being set up which is essential for running not only the 2019 season but also for taking the club and female football at Lakers into the future. We are looking for a player/representative from each age group to enable a balance view, aid in decision making, and sharing the load. Everyone has a unique skill to offer. Please advise Nathan Reid via [email protected], of your expression of interest to be on our Committee.
